Message from Astrophotography by Ronald Zincone
Thank you for visiting my portfolio of artwork! Welcome to Ronald Zincone Astrophotography, an award-winning astrophotographer from Richmond, Rhode Island. I have been pursuing astroimaging for 10 years. Night-Sky Photography is my "niche" and true passion because of its mixture of astronomy, photography and nature. To capture such humbling and inspiring imagery while telling a story through my eyes, and at the same time, archive and preserve is absolutely thrilling! Astrophotography is a specialized and unique form of photography that involves low-light and long exposures and is the ultimate test for your optics. Be forwarned - astroimaging can be very addicting - it is for me!
I previously imaged using 35mm color slide photography using a 35mm Olympus OM-1 fully mechanical/manual camera, Zuiko lenses and a Bogen Manfrotto O55MF3 Mag/Carbon Fiber tripod with a bogen 3030 pan/tilt head. I had also used the spectacular Canon 35mm EOS 20Da SLR 8.2mp "digital" especially optimized for astrophotography, Sigma, Tamron and Canon lenses as well as other accessories such as a remote shutter release. My main interest was in camera-on-tripod techniques but I also imaged using piggyback, prime focus and eyepiece projection photography using my astronomical telescopes. From a DSLR, I have now made the jump into lunar and planetary webcam imaging! I now use the Celestron 8-inch C8-S XLT SCT, a Schmidth-Cassegain design telescope. I will soon be imaging using my Celestron NexImager CCD webcam, IBM Laptop and my Celestron SCT to achieve Lunar and Planetary Webcam astrophotography. Stay tuned!
On display here are images I am very proud of and would love to share with you for your enjoyment and for your decor. For those of you interested in purchasing my artwork, you will see a PayPal "Add to Cart" option under each image and a PayPal "View Cart" in each Gallery. If you are interested in a different image size, matting and framing, please email me at astropho1@yahoo.com and I would be more than happy to accomodate you. Showcased are sunrise and sunset imagery, twilights, conjunctions, images of historical astronomical events, eclipses, auroras, extreme-weather such as lightning and much more. My work has been published in Sky & Telescope, Astronomy, SkyNews(Canada), Nature Photographer, Exposure Gallery, Today's Photographer, and (Popular Photography & Imaging and Outdoor Photographer Magazines through a NYIP Ad), PSA Journal (Cover) as well as in several local newspapers "The Chariho Times", "The South County Independent", "The Narragansett Times", "The Charlestown Press" and a front-page spotlight story with images in the May 24, 2007 edition of the "Wood River Press". My Northern Lights image was also featured on the Cover of the Learning Connection, March/April 2007 Catalog featuring my "night-sky photography course." My art has won several photo contests awards including a PSA International Medal for my image of the Northern Lights as "Best General" Scape in the 1st Ocean State Salon 2005, PSRI. My images have also sold throughout the United States and Internationally through Ebay and can be seen locally throughout Rhode Island, including "The Bagelz" at the URI Emporium, Kingston and in Wakefield; "OnlyInRI" located at Newport and Providence and at the "International Pockets Cafe" located in Aquidneck.
I am a 2X Graduate Student of the New York Institute of Photography (NYIP), a lifetime member of the International Freelance Photographer's Organization and American Images Press, a member of the International Dark-Sky Association, and, my astronomy club, the Astronomical Society of Southern New England (ASSNE) out of Rehoboth, Mass. I am also a past member of the Photographic Society of America, the Photographic Society of Rhode Island and the Yankee Photographic Society. I am a prior field contributor for Nature Photographer Magazine and a (past) associate photographer for Exposure Gallery Magazine.
As of April 2003, five percent(5%) of each of my astrophoto sales will be donated, by me, to the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) a non-profit organization which educates and makes change to preserve our night sky. Without dark skies, I would not be able to image the beauty that is above us. All of my photography is exclusively owned by me, Ronald Zincone, as the photographer and cannot be sold to any other party or downloaded without prior permission. All of my images are professionally printed from my home in Richmond, RI.
