Work in Process

Caspers Wilderness Park, CA view map

(7247)

Not the best picture of the day, but possibly the most interesting.

After about a 3 mile bird walk at Caspers Wilderness Park where we heard and saw a nice variety of birds, we stopped at the Nature Center. We went directly to the upper observation decks. Besides the usual birds at the feeders and the drip and other birds in the distance, we saw a number of cliff swallows swooping around and disappearing below us.

When we came down and looked under the upper deck, we saw the cliff swallows busy building their mud nests. These are the swallows famous in the area for returning to the mission at San Juan Capistrano every year. With the continued development of the area, the swallows have moved to other areas to make their homes.

Hopefully, they will feel welcome here for many years to come.
