Trailheads to Gem Lake and Fern Lake are just beyond the small ridge in the center and through the "valley" in the right of the image. These are intermediate hikes and will generate deep breathing, which may be contraindicated on days when particulates, haze, and smog are as thick as seen in this recent photo.
