What is the best way to dry mushrooms?

I live in a very old house (about 150 years) In my unfinished basement I see hanging black things that look kind of like icicles but they are dry and when you knock them off they are dusty. They grow in groups and are only a couple of inches long and just hang on the old wood under the floor of the old house... have any idea what it can be? I have looked up mold and lichens but don't see anything that it resembles.

Can you identify a round fungi with sea shell like lines, containing 3-5 cream colored egg shaped centers? They are growing on rotting wood near a pond.

Found 3 specimens of fluffy lacy white, mushrooms or fungi. They were found on the trunk of a dead Spruce tree fallen approx. 8yrs. ago. Almost looks like an under water something. Puffy, white, lacy, very intricate & pretty. Any ideas ?

Nice photos. Would not use this site to identify fungi/mushrooms. Note that some photos labelled as "lichen" are actually shelf fungi.

I love your site. I have been searching for the identification of something growing close to my house. It looks like bubbles of gelitous, greenish black goo prostrate to the ground and gravel and it seems to be spreading. I hope you can help me find out what they are. Also I saw three strange looking, I guess muchrooms this past fall near my house. There were three different sizes but each had five triangles joined together at the base in a round circle and standing up with tips pointing out. Each triange was about one half inch thick with crisscross marks resembling a tortous shell on the inside part of the triangle that pointed up and out. There was a hole in the center. When I dug my fingernail into it, it was of a muchroom like consistency. I am very interested to know just what I am seeing and who can tell me or identify what they are.

Thank you for all the beautiful photos, I enjoyed all the varieties and found that I had quite a few of them in my yard. I was in search of a photo of the type of mushroom I found in my mowed lawn, it stood out above the cut grass, very very delicate, white with a very thin white stem. It was a white 5 petal flower, which seemed to have teeny tiny black specks on the underside of the turned up broad petals. There was this one, standing all alone, and then another not too far off, just as delicate, but the flower, just as the other was not much bigger than 1/4" in diameter, but this one did not have petals, just very delicate hair like flat bristles. Has anyone else come across these?

I have a picture I took of a fungi at the Anchorage Botanical Garden (not part of the garden) and I'm very interested in what kind it is. I did not see anything on this page that looks anything like it. It is goldenrod yellow and the assumed younger ones look like a bunch of small potatoes with many tiny white eyes. I would love to send you a picture so you might identify it for me!

Many little mushrooms grew all over my mulch in between plant. They are samll in light grey color and have a beige mittle. They look like small flowers. Are they poisenous? I have a dog. Doris

After looking at all these wonderful photos, I could not identify what is growing around the inside perimeter of my barrel planter which has been outdoors for many years (NE Region). This substance or fungi resembles white rounded teeth, close together. It is a hard substance with a root system of about 1 or 1-1/2 inches pointing straight down along the side of the barrel. This growth appeared last summer for the first time and has reappeared this year before I planted any flowers in it---usually impatients. Can you help me identify this? I am inclined to destroy the barrel and discard all of the soil. Thank you. Ruth-Anne

I just moved into a house that has these dark mushrooms that have a flower shape like a round center with 4 or 5 petals. They are only in the grass within a foot of where the flowers and plants were put in and it is seperated by wood. The don't grow in the garden area just on the outside of it. I thought it was dog poop until I saw the petal shapes around them. Any idea what it is? I have 2 dogs, I want to make sure they are not dangerous to them. Thanks
