i was also wondering if we could use your train hopping pics for our website/shop crustycrafters.com let me know
itsy 05-Aug-2008 20:00
i was hoping i'd find a link to a myspace or something. i'm absolutely in love with your trainhopping photos. i have a few propositions for you regarding them, one being an anthropology study i want to begin (and continue for a few years) about modern YOUNG hobo life. i haven't done much traveling myself (yet) have to wait for the right time because of college and all but my boyfriend traveled for years and years before i met him.

anyway, your photos are AMAZING and i would love to start/keep contact with you.

I'm going to model some of my work after you in the future...as soon as I get a new camera.

I have been a fan of your work for some time now. Each time I go to you pages here I find something wonderful and that captures photography in its purest form.

Also remember that the people who have a fascination for critiquing and giving negative comments generally need to find something to comment critically about. They do this for reasons that are not pure but out of spite.

Critics are people who fail and need to drag others down with them. Keep up the good work.

Art is subjective, what can I say? If you're a starving artist, you face this trajedy... I hope I was honest enough for you and for me.

I thought for sure you did a lot of post work but your profile says no. Great to see that you can get this out of your lens.

Hi Amelia-
I just wanted you to know that I've included a link to your trainhopping photos on my website http://halfwaytohobo.com

I might be interested in using some of your photographs on the website, but want to know if you mind. (I would give you credit). The website is still under construction, but it is viewable. Great photos!

thanks,

Hello Amelia,
Just this morning I discovered you and I've been surfing for a while in your galleries. After a while I thought you diserve some more attention. Your job is outstanding and you made my day. Pleas keep shooting and sharing. I should tell you that scanner is destroying clarity and contrast too much on your images.

Amelia - As a person observing American from the outside I sometimes question whether the spirit that was seen in previous generations is gone. Your photos show that the American spirit is alive and vibrant.

These are SPECIAL images - I wish you much luck, but I have a feeling you won't need it.

Amazing galleries. I was once an advid film user but now I've converted to digital. Since then some part of my creative side and the drive to see art before capturing the photograph has left me - your pictures inspire me to open up my creativity again. Thank you.
Lawrence Ripsher 12-Jan-2006 13:50
Hi Amelia, am new to your galleries and have so far just seen portaits yet rarely do I see a set of images which grabs me as visually as yours have. Reminds me of how I felt when I saw some of Ellen von Unwerth's work for the first time. Inspirational. Will be back

Your work is great. Especially the protest galleries are awesome. Wow, just can't find the words to describe what I feel when I look at your stuff.
Pablo Virgo 30-Oct-2005 06:03
I keep seeing you post ads for your work on the Philly Craislist, and always get sucked into looking at your galleries. Your work is a very cool mix of stylish, rebellious, and I guess joyful because "fun" doesn't do the underlying issues justice. Almost joy as an act of rebellion. You went train hopping? Wow..! Stay dedicated, I imagine people will be coming out to a retrospective of your work some day, and in the meantime don't starve too much!

I look at your photos often, especially the ones of trains. I love them. In fact, the one titled Dunsmuir Hobo Gathering is the wallpaper on my desktop. Hope you don't mind.
otto 23-May-2005 21:34
Amelia, First off the portrait work is great and that's about as far as I got except for the shot of Columbia Gorge. Portland ex-pat or was it just a visit out there? I did more portrait work there than I'm doing here, bummer. How much do you charge for a portrait of another photographer(me)? You need finacial encouragement, I'll try to help.
Ellsworth Weaver 23-May-2005 17:49
Hey Amelia, I think your comments about the "beach babes" are thought provoking. I am photographing paid models now. Public area candids are somewhat okay, but the focus on just what the guy was doing is kind of...creepy. In NY state, I think it is against the law. Anyway, please stop over and look at some of mine, especially the Photoshopped ones if you would. I have others that I do not post. Am working toward getting a graphic novel together. Now am learning to get models to show up on time and NOT CUT THEIR HAIR. Gack! Regards, Ells

You can tell how beautiful some things are by how hard it is to come up with words to describe how much. These are insanely, breathtakingly and consistently so.

I am blown away.

Like the pictures... for the photographic value, and the familiar faces of New Orleans and beyond. My fucking camera got stolen along with my 3 lenses, and film 2 months into my travels..so I'm working on getting another one. Cant wait to get out again.
Uhmm... keep it up?

...these are marvelous. seeing other people taking awesome photos always makes me want to get into it myself. unfortunately, i started this fall but then my camera got smashed the last time i got arrested. but, yeah. i really dig your photos. see ya round kid...
JLN 05-Feb-2005 08:37
Amelia, you have some great pictures here.
an advice : do not post your full size pictures, they can easely be stolen and used for magazines or whatever. Only post 800x600 max, definition will be too limited for printing, and if someone really like your pictures, he will ask for it !

Hey Amelia! 'Tis I, Ms sarah, I didnt have your email address so ill try and talk to you here...it was rad to get to meet you, and hopefully Ill see you a little ways down the road...your photos are simply blowing me the fuck away. Ive seen the dirty boots in boxcars and half naked ladys in fountains and all every day for the past four years, and its crazy to see the beautiful way that you see them, to know that there are other people who arent looking around them and taking it all for granted, makes me feel alittle less alone, you know? well take care, and take care of chris, too. love, me
Jeremy Aronhalt 04-Nov-2004 00:28
Wow! I love your photos. Your portraits just blew me away. I can't really articulate how good they are. Hope to see more from that gallery.

Your art speaks for itself. You gracefully capture what provokes thought (and lots of irate comments): you must be succeeding in your aim then. Goddess Liberty bless you and your life. Please stop by my small site, too. You are one of my momentary heros.
Amelia Merrick 27-Sep-2004 04:48
My name is Amelia Merrick too....if the person three comments ago was also really named Amelia Merrick that makes three of us. That's trippy. I would be interested in knowing your clan - I was from the line of Jack Merrick. He has been the subject of some of my art, though I never met him. Please email at fannie_on_the_fly@yahoo.com.

Though I unexpectedly stumbled upon your work I enjoyed it. You capture depth, emotions and colours. Fantastic.

hey, i just wanted to leavea message that i enjoyed the crap out of your antiwar photos. i have a few protest galleries as well, but they are of much lower level events (because at larger events i am usually too noisy to really bother with a camera). anyway, keep it real...

Protester

I didnt get to see it all. I got further insight looking beyond the anti-war shots (BTW all well done) The ones I saw were well composed images that in nature were sexual but not overly so. I like the use of legs and arms. My mind could complete the image without needing to see the complete person. To me that speaks of the vision of the photographer. Its one of the things that the good ones can pull off because they can see when it works.

IMHO You do.

MH
