Mission Trip, on April 2006, from the United Methodist Church in Florida to the United Methodist Church in Malange, East Angola. Bishop Quipungo and wife Laurinda were our hosts. We found the most beautiful people there in Malange and in Angola in general. Churches in Luanda are also packed.

Thank you for posting these beautiful pictures of your trip to Angola. I am from there, and have been living in the States with my family since I was 7. It was a nice surprise, when I found you after googling "images" of Angola.

Thank you for the beautiful photos..Please could you tell me are the inhabitants of Malange referred to as Malangines, since they live there? I once found a site that did use that word, and now cannot find it again. Also, when did Malange come into being as Malange? Was it always Malange, or was it something else before? And please, what language is the word Malange? I am very interested in Malange, Angola in my search for my ancestors.

Armando, Thanks for these photos. My brothers and I grew up in Luanda, Angola, and one of my brothers had sent me links to your Luanda church photos and the Quessua cross. Today I returned from a vacation of seeing my brothers and their families. While in the Myrtle Beach airport, I heard a man address an African-looking man as "bishop." I asked that man some questions and discovered that bishop was from Liberia, plus both men were with the United Methodist Church. (My parents were Methodist missionaries in Angola; we returned to the US in 1957.) I asked whether there had been an Angolan bishop at the conference. Yes! I looked all over the airport, introducing myself to a few non-bishops(!), before I approached Bishop Quipungo. We were both amazed at the coincidence, and we had a great ten-minute conversation, first in English and then in Portuguese. We knew some of the same people. What a nice man! I sent my family an e-mail about our encounter as soon as I returned home. Wondering whether I was correct about the spelling of his name, I searched on "Quiebungo," then on "bishop malange," and that's how I found your photos! I just sent the link of Bishop Quipungo's photo to my family. Thank you so much for posting your photos! Sincerely, Sue
