Lahore is the city of the first Mughal conquests in India. It had great strategic importance for the Mughals due to its situation.
During the 16th century Akbar rebuilt this 3000 year old fort on the banks of the Ravi, enlarging and strengthening it by replacing the original clay walls with bricks.

The original 450 year old brick paths - Lahore Fort
He built the present Lahore Fort on the foundations of a previous fort that was 3000 years old. That is the reason it says Akbar "REBUILT" above. Akbar was ruling Lahore around 1584 onwards for 14 years.
