Baltistan, Northern Pakistan

Baltistan is a remote and isolated area of Pakistan that has beautiful landscapes, yet is little know in the outside world.

In early August 2004 I spent a week in Baltistan with my family and saw some of its awesome mountain scenery. Starting with a spectacular flight on PIA we arrived in Skardu where we made our base. Then we continued to Deosai Plains, Shigar, Khaplu and Machlu.

It was an enchanting week that we will remember for long.

The Balti people were welcoming and friendly, at times not accepting our money for services because afterall "we were their guests". Such places are rare to find these days and deserve to be cherished.

Kudos to G. Mortenson for sharing and enlightening us about this absolutely awesome beautiful part of the planet. So many lessons could be learned from Mortenson's experiences in Baltistan. These pictures do portray exactly the descriptions written.

I am another "Three Cups of Tea" reader and I thank you for these photos. It looks like a beautiful place and seems refreshingly clean of the garbage we humans have inflicted upon more populated places in the world.

I am also reading "Three Cups of Tea" and after only a few chapters finding myself wanting to see this beautiful 'undescribable" - country. Thises photos help to bring it alive - thank you so much for sharing - someday maybe I will be fortunate enough to see this myself- Aloha

Marvellous! You added a human face to the mountainous beauty of Baltiatan. I hope you would continue your work as an art. A gallary showing the new social changes would be a great contribution. Hoping for more!

Wonderfull galleries presenting beautiful sceneries and interesting people. my mother and father is also from baltistan but i do not visit at baltistan because of my study in london god keep natural at next year i will be in baltistan?
