To enter the harbor at Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon; hereafter referred to as HCMC in my blog), a ship must sail up the Saigon River for about 4 hours. This must be done in the daylight! So we picked up our pilot at 6AM. Wanting to see the sail in, we were up at sunrise.

As we go upriver, the character of the river begins to change. Small towns appear on one bank. The fishing boats disappear, and then we see a cargo port, with a large bulk cargo ship at the dock.
