My home town, Sandefjord, was the world capital of whaling from the end of the 19th century until the last whale expedition out of the town in the season 1967-68. The Whaling Monument shows whalers in action. The monument was made by the artist Knut Steen in the period 1955-60 in the most "glorious" period of whaling.
