Bonsoir Luc!

Salut and good luck in the next photos...I'm anxious to see them...

Dear Luc,
Thank you very much for sharing your photos, the outdoors views are beautiful.
I am thinking to replace my digital camera but as usual in this cases, I do not
know which one is better for my necessities. I have been considering G3, Olympus
C5050 and S50. Looking at your gallery I am highly impressed with the picture
quality and fine details. I will appreciate any additional comment or suggestion.
Thanks and take care

OK, I was all set to go out and buy to Canon S50 over the G3 because I herd the pictures were comparable between the two (better lens on the G3 more MP on the S50). Ifigured if the print quality is efectivly the same, why not go with the smaller option. However, now the much anticipated G5 is just days away realizing the G5 is just a G3 with more MP doesn't it now make sense to go with the better lens and 5.0 MP of the G5 vs a G3 or S50? Please share your thoughts.

Hi Luic

Thanks for leaving a message on my pbase website. You asked for my opinion on the D100 and the EOS10D. Yes, I have owned a Nikon D100 (3 of them in fact) and still own the Canon EOS10D. I would recommend the Canon EOS10D without any hesitation, and because of bad experiences with my Nikon D100's I do not recommend it. Below is a brief discussion of the main considerations that I experienced. ABOUT THE NIKON: it is a lovely camera, very rich in features, and very easy to use - you can use it as a "point and shoot" very easily in auto mode, and it takes fabulous photographs. I returned mine a few times because (a) even though they were brand new, there was dust on the CCD and the dust shows on the photographs, (b) 2 of them had defective pixels that caused "explosive" bright pixels in the photographs (each of these pixel defects would require the camera to be sent back to Japan). Eventually I got tired of taking the Nikon back to the dealer and the Nikon agents and I asked for my money back. I immediately went out and bought a Canon EOS10D after reading very good reviews. ABOUT THE CANON: First, it is "a lot of camera." It takes a bit of experimenting to get the most out of it. I have had mine for about 2 months and I have taken thousands of photographs, indoors, in studio, outdoors, in forests, at the beach etc., and none of my photographs reveal even the slightest dust contamination. The Canon uses a filter in front of the sensor (Canon uses a cooler, less energy-hungry CMOS sensor and not a CCD) and I think this is what protects the sensor from contamination. Dust is the worst enemy of any digital SLR and I think Canon have found the solution. In any case, you can clean the Canon's sensor yourself far more easily than the Nikon, without having to buy any additional accessories. The Canon has many more features than the Nikon and in my opinion is a more advanced camera, more a "pro" camera than the Nikon. Also, the Canon software is infinitely superior to the Nikon software. The other "plus" is that the Canon is a little cheaper than the Nikon, and the range of Canon lenses that fits the EOS10D is vast. The ultimate test is the quality of the images, and the ease with which the photographer can produce those images : the Canon wins hand-down. I hope this helps.

Hello Luc, thanks for viewing my gallery, and for the nice comments. Although I am far from profesionnal, I just love taking photos. And the 10D is a very nice camera to do it with. I am just amazed every time at the results. The focus is much better than my old D30. I use the AI Servo mode most of the time, because those little birds are so fast. I would highly recommend the 10D.

I am attempting to decide between the Canon G3 and the Canon S50. Which do you feel takes the better overall pictures. What do you see as the strength and weakness of each of the two cameras?
