Michelle, Chazzy and I spend the evening walking the bike trail at Breaks Interstate Park. We found a couple of small feeder flocks of warblers along the way that included Redstart, Parula, Magnolia, Tennessee, Bay-breasted, and Palm Warblers. We also found our first Yellow-rumped Warblers and Ruby-crowned Kinglets of the fall season. At the Beaver Pond we had great looks at a male Common Yellowthroat. Laurel Lake revealed a pair of Pied-billed Grebes and a pair of Wood Ducks.
Saturday morning found us hiking the ridgeline at Guesses Fork near Hurley. Warblers were hard to come by but we did find a few small flocks. We had great looks at a Nashville Warbler feeding near the ground. We also found two Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, our first of the season. Hawks included great looks at Sharpies, Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks. A pair of Wood Ducks were found in one of the ponds on top of the mountain.
