Chazzy and I decided to head out this morning and look for new arrivals. Our first stop was Anglin Falls in Rockcastle County, a beautiful waterfall with a 75-foot drop. I was surprised that we had the trail all to ourselves but I was not complaining. Within the first 100 yards I had heard my first Scarlet Tanager and my first Wood Thrush of 2011. The hollow up to the falls was carpeted with wildflowers of all types. We saw Black-and-white, Ovenbird, La Waterthrush, Worm-eating and Hooded Warblers on the way up to the falls. Then we headed out to Owsley Fork Lake in Madison County where we found Prairie, C. Yellowthroat, and Blue-winged Warblers. A pair of Green Heron gave us nice looks near the lake. Finally a quick stop at Miller Welch WMA added a Parala to our list for a 9 warbler morning. It was a great morning of Kentucky birding.
