workers who made every minute of the day count. We sacrificed blood, guts, tears, and sweat. I am happy

Aloha Billy,

I have a couple of positions open at Hawaii's Better Business Bureau. How do i go about posting it for former AQ employees? The first is a customer service position in our operations team - the position is similar to customer relations and claims and add in database management - I thought it would be ideal for Julie Baron if I had her phone number. Another position is inside sales; similar to a telemarketing approach but more. Call me 779-1465

Billy-Aloha from SFO. I am so bad about keeping your ctc information. I usually get my news from the on-line versions of the Honolulu star-bulletin and the Honolulu advertiser. Of course events that involve the AQ ohana usually already happened. I did run across the Lokahi giving tree for AQ several months back when first borne. But that is about all I have been able to contribute to since AQs demise. I think part of it is denial that AQ is no longer and I keep hoping to see in the news one day that Aloha is flying again or wake up and pray that it was all just a nightmare. I just wanted to let everyone know that I think of the AQ ohana and only wish the best for everyone. It's taken me this long to respond this way, embarassing on my part of course in many ways, but I keep thinking it's just a dream. I have included my email address, and I hope that someday I can join in on one of the gatherings that you all do back home. I will be back in Hawaii on vacation April 25-30. Time flys by when life is at the forefront and I wish I was better involved with the support that everyone needed when AQ shut down. Please let me know of upcoming events, fundraisers, or something that I might be of any help with here at AA and in SFO or even to help with an event back home. If it's to purchase a t-shirt or offering of a donation for an event or fundraiser please let me know. I can still hear AQ441 approaching the house after it's takeoff out of OAK every morning. Sometimes I look up when I hear an airplane above hoping that it's a bird of paradise flying overhead. Maybe someday again, maybe...someday!!!!!

Aloha from SFO,

Shane

aloha to all.
When I started with Aloha airlines I knew that it was the place for me cause my coworkers made me feel so comfortable, never let me a slow learner get left behind and we grew together by trial an error only to improve, cause we were there tried and only to make better and not let anything drag is down.We also made many airline friends on those inteline tours abroad and those friends encouraged us and we grew better in so many ways and many of us employees put our passion learning into doing unto others as you would we would want for ourselves. Travel agents and even passengers made suggestions and yes we did not hold back we tried.. I remember one of our managers saying our attitude was can do and we did. After 37 years of this can do I decided to let others have a chance to share in the can do. I retired and oh yeah I sure did miss the getting up and seeing friendly faces, but I thought I could go take a trip to the old job site and check in..however now those faces are all scattered but it is so wondeful when someone like Billy keeps us in check and those who have planned gatherings and continue to meet only strengthens the Aloha spirit and are to be greatfully respected for their leadership and encouragement. Keep the Ha in aloha alive and flowing. Mahalo for your kokua. Wishing you a beter new year Health wealth and aloha ....Maile B

I have to say I have a high level of respect for you. What you have done with this web site is tremendous!
I am sure the former employees/friends and family appreciate this as much as I do. I received a copy of the
CD 60 Years of Aloha. Towards the end of the history segment, if I am correct in recognizing you, you received
plenty of exposure. Congratulations on a job well done and for the job of keeping the web site going! Iam very grateful.

You can go ahead and remove the request for the FA shirt off your home page. It's alright, no worries.
Did you say you had a green FA shirt to send me? If so, do you still have my home address? Feel free to

To Billy and the Wonderful Aloha Ohana...
As I look at all the pictures on the website, I realize what a journey I've had, the most wonderful journey that will live on in my heart and memories. I think the saddest part of all this is that the love and strength of the ohana could not keep the company together and that is the reality of it. We have the most wonderful people, dedicated and caring, the love for the ohana and the job that we did. What an abrupt end for the company. However, the love in our hearts for the ohana will never die, no one can take that away. As we go on different roads and our journeys takes us to new ventures in our lives, the heart will always be full of Aloha. I hope our paths cross soon and often.
Forever Amber

Aloha Kakou and prayers to you all at AQ OHANA. I was fortunate to receive your website from a good friend of mine. I am a Hawaiian who lives in the NorthWest. I work for Alaska Airlines as a flight attendant. I have been in the Industry for twenty one years as of 12/1986. We here at Alaska are going through a situation, where the economy and Huge oil prices are affecting our Airlines. We just recieved a notice from our CEO that we will be cutting back one thousand jobs across the board. Alot of my new friends in different Departments are all afraid of losing their jobs. I know it was very hard for the AQ family and friends when your company closed their business. God Bless you all and I pray things will look better in the near future. A friend in the Industry. A profound message but in a truely christian society would not those with larger crosses help those with smaller crosses across the abyss? First rule of trekking in the wilderness is to put your weaker team members at the front of the party, so they don't get left behind.

The beautiful blue, with birds of paradise and tiny scripted Aloha throughut the pattern. Well, when wearing it one day,

Aloha Billy:

It took me a long time, but about three weeks ago, while traveling inter island, I went to the airport a
little early just so that I could walk through the "Aloha terminal" one last time. I was with a friend who
understood how important it was for me to walk through and see the large poster pictures still up on the
walls of the terminal. I had to touch every one of them, just to know that they were still there. Gave me goosebumps.
I know the sadness of the passenger ops shutting down is still pretty close to all of us. I am just grateful that, once in a
while, I will hear the 'ol -200's taking off. When I see that, I lift my arm and say "keep going, climb higher, we'll see you
again soon!"

Billy,
Thank you for updating the website. I still look at them on a daily basis and think about all of the good times we had together as a family. I truly miss everyone from AQ. It still saddens me to think how everything unfolded, but, we can't change the past. I literally run into someone from AQ every week. To think of all of the friends I have made over the years, I am truly blessed.

Patti, although we have never met I am a huge fan of Aloha Airlines. Being a former airline employee I know, and understand the loss of Aloha. Your years of service is outstanding in itself! One profession I always tried to enter was Flight Attendant. Who knows, maybe one day I will get my wish! The pictures are spectacular and promote the family image Aloha was always known for. God Bless You and your Aloha family.

Billy,
I have a lot of pictures of Maui Cargo that I would like to share with you. Let me know how I would be able to post them on your site. I also have ground pictures of the last flight AQ 261 on the 31st of March. I also took a lot of pictures of the pilot's last day and flights from Maui. Let me know!

MAHALO!!! It's always a comfort to go to the site and see pictures and read stories. The verses are inspiring. Amazing how with the technology and the talents and efforts of special people like you, we will always be able to look back at pictures (on the computer!) and be reminded of the ALOHA spirit.
God Bless, Jan

Billy,

I got one real "old timer-kine" story for you. Back in the 1970's, I and Ron Abel, Grant Howe, Randy Lum, et. al. were stewards (Polically correct term is "male flight attendant" now) and we also surfed. We'd be on "stand-by" status and would have to call in to scheduling or dispatch every 2 hours to see if they needed us. So, being the resourceful kind of guys we were, we'd go surfing at Kaiser Bowl or Rock Piles and paddle in every two hours to call to see if we were needed. We either had our steward uniforms in the lockers in the stewards lounge, which was next to the baggage belt loader in the old terminal, or in the trunk of our cars. Back then, there was a pay phone in the heli-port lot fronting the Hilton Lagoon, and phone calls were a dime. So we'd fill our pockets with dimes and surf until/unless we had to scurry to the airport to fill in for a flight crew member.

Those were the days, and we are all blessed with these fond memories of Aloha Airlines...best place in the universe to work!!

I wish I was there. The end of the Aloha Explorers, a great program that has inspired and enlighted me.
The wonderful advisors through the years, giving so much of themselves, the friendships and good times.
The wonderful students, some shy, some enthusiastic, all wanting to gain knowledge and left with no regrets.
Billy, you were there at the beginning and stayed till the very end. I was always in awe of you and your talents.
So giving and what a great teacher, I learned a lot from you. Greg, thank you for keeping it going, awesome.
Jaime would say so also, I learned so much from her too, so inspiring.

To the new advisors and old, the former advisors and former explorers, thank you for being a part of this great program
and for putting your heart in it. I have very fond memories that I will cherish forever.

Aloha my friends.

What a great night we had together one last time this past Wednesday. There are so many reasons it was a true celebration, and all of you take the credit for our success.

Many thanks are deserved, so I'll attempt to sum it all up as best I can:

Thanks Captain Walt for getting the plaques made and for being everyone's mentor.
Thanks Advisor Wes for dubbing the CDs as those long nights really paid off.
Thanks Advisor Mo for your help with dubbing the CDs, and for your own special slideshows during the meal.
Thanks Advisor Naupaka for the student scrapbooks (very nice).
Thanks Advisor Chasity for consistently covering all the bases, including the banner, upgrading the story board, keeping me honest, etc.
Thanks Advisor Kristen for making the Outstanding Explorer lei's, and for being such a great voice for Aloha in last Sunday's paper.
Thanks Tagavilla sisters for the edible creations fruit display last week, and for the cookie treats this week. Yummy!
Thanks Justin for the model Aloha airplane. The plane is sitting in the most prominent part of my house, proudly on display.
Thanks Chandler and Jerris for representing the Explorers so well on the news!

Sorry, but don't want to forget anyone, so thanks everyone for all you've done to make this year (and every previous year of Explorers) so special!

Finally, and not lastly, the biggest thanks go to Uncle Billy. Uncle Billy selflessly gave of himself for nearly 18-years to the Aloha Explorers Program. Nearly all of the 570+ students that have graduated from the program have had their lives touched by our friend. There is no equal in enthusiasm for what we too easily refer to as the 'spirit of aloha,' but sometimes have difficulty explaining. Just take a look into Billy's world, his dedication to teaching young one's to swim, his talent with speaking with his hands, his nurturing way with Hawaiiana in the classroom, his ability to make everyone his friend, and his excellence in showing the Explorers what aviation life is all about.

Did you folks know how often Billy conducted 'extra' exploring with our students? Most aren't aware, but while Advisors gave of themselves for 3-hours every Tuesday, Billy went one up on us. That's dedication to our students, and that's truly what the 'spirit of aloha' is all about.

Sorry if any of this is embarrassing Billy, and he'd never push all of this on anyone as self-promotion, but heck, someone's gotta do it. I'm proud of my association with Aloha Airlines, and proud of being a small part of the Aloha Airlines Explorers Program. But I'm most proud to call Uncle Billy my friend. It doesn't get any better.

Thank you from all the Advisors and Students Uncle Billy, past and present, for all you've done for Aloha Airlines, and for our beloved Explorers Program. It's so very appreciated!

With that, I'm signing off. Any Explorer that has any questions, wants to talk story, or needs further guidance, you've got all advisor e-mails in the line above. Don't be a stranger, but do be the great representatives of Aloha that you've become!

Aloha.

Uncle Greg.

Hi Billy,
I was referred here to this site from one of my girlfriends who was an employee of Aloha Airlines. Anyway, this is a great site to keep the aloha going with not only the employees but others who were touched by them as well. With that said, I wanted to ask your permission to see if it was okay to post some information about a great opporutnity for employment and financial knowledge for employees of Aloha Airlines. Our company will be hosting an informational briefing in May for those interested. There will be dinner and entertainment provided. If your permission is granted, I would actually prepare a informational flyer stating the details (when, where, time, etc...) and you would just need to post the flyer itself on this webiste. I hope this is an appropriate request and I hope to hear from you. Thanks again for your time!!!

Billy,
Thanks for this. Just looking at all the photos and video clips bring back warm memories. Dianna started flying in 1969.
I started at Aloha back in 1973 (stewards wore orange bush jackets and white bell-bottomed trousers) and left in 1992.
So as an Aloha couple, we put in nearly 60 years combined. When I left, I was told by retirees and former employees "you'll
really miss the people". I find that is more true today than ever. Aloha Airlines was such a great place to work! And it is a bond
we will always share with other employees. Once Aloha, always Aloha...and we are both very honored and fortunate to have been
part of that wonderful Aloha Airlines family for all these years.

Take care and Keep well!

Hi Billy -

Just wanted to share with you a few pics for your website of our last trip on Aloha to Orange County. We just took our 4 boys this past January thinking it would be another 2 years before we get to go again (baby Baker #5 is due in June and it's a girl!). Little did we know that this would be our last time flying Aloha.

Thank you for sharing all the wonderful pics on your website and the videos on youtube. It brings a smile to my face to see all the wonderful images you have captured, but at the same time it gets me all choked up to see our ohana being torn apart. One thing we all can say though, is that through Aloha we have made many life long friends.

I READ THE COMMENTS OF MY FELLOW CO WORKERS AND THE THEME IS ALL THE SAME. BEFORE I CAME TO ALOHA AIRLINES, I HAD KNOWN DR. CHING AND HIS FAMILY FOR SEVERAL YEARS. THEY WERE KIND AND GENEROUS AND CARED ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES. I LOOKED FORWARD TO SEEING DR. AND MRS. CHING COME TO THE AIRPORT AND TAKE FLIGHTS TO THE OUTER ISLANDS. THEY ALWAYS HAD A KIND WORD TO SAY AND NEVER DEMANDED SPECIAL TREATMENT. THEY TOOK CARE OF US. I REMEMBER THE SENIOR AGENTS IN RESERVATIONS, CARGO, SUPPLY, AND THE AIRPORT, WHO WERE SO TOUGH ON US AND WE HATED THEM....BUT WHEN THEY WERE GONE, WE APPRECIATED THE LESSONS THEY TAUGHT US. WHEN IT WAS OUT TURN, WE TRIED TO INSTILL THOSE LESSONS IN THE YOUNGER PEOPLE WE CAME TO SUPERVISE OURSELVES. IT IS TRULY AS IT HAS BEEN STATED BEFORE, WE WERE A FAMILY, ALOHA TAUGHT US TO RESPECT EACH OTHER AND THE PASSENGERS, WHO WERE OUR EXTENDED FAMILY.

MY HOPE FOR ALL OF YOU IS TO TAKE THE LESSONS WE LEARNED FROM ALOHA AND ENRICH THE ISLANDS WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND SERVICE. BE PROUD WHEN PEOPLE SAY "THEY CAME FROM ALOHA AIRLINES" THEY ARE REALLY GOOD EMPLOYEES. MAKE US ALL PROUD..

BILLY, ONCE AGAIN YOU HAVE BEEN THE "GO TO GUY" GIVING US A VEHICLE TO KEEP IN CONTACT WITH ONE ANOTHER. THANK YOU SO MUCH.. I KNOW TO KEEP THE WEBSITE GOING IS NOT CHEAP AND SO IF YOU NEED ANY DONATIONS, PLEASE LET US KNOW... I WILL DONATE AND I AM SURE OTHERS WILL TOO. MAHALO AND "ALOHA"

Aloha Billy,
Thank you so much for keeping this site updated! What would we do without you and all your hard work in maintaing this site?

Monday, March 31st, 2008 will forever go down in the annals of Hawaii history as "Black Monday". What a sad day for the thousands of us that worked at Aloha Airlines and for the entire community that depended upon us for their travel needs.

I will never forget all people I've met during my 13years at Aloha Airlines! My one regret is not being able to say goodbye in person to the many of you that touched my life in such positive ways. Let's all use this site as a vehicle to stay in touch as we all move on, albeit in different directions. This ever changing world will never know another company with a stronger bond and spirit of Ohana than we had at Aloha Airlines! We laughed, cried, and fought together during both the good times and bad times. We were family!

Please continue to update this site with as many photos and as much info as possible.
This way we can all visit to reminisce. Thank you and God Bless!

Everyone should know this was harder than I thought, taking pictures of our planes on the taxiway. Not the access, but the emotions. I've not always understood how someone could cry over the loss of a pet, or a special keepsake, but I think I get it now. It's hard to explain that feeling when being up close to our aircraft, quiet, still and empty. I suppose it's not so much the aircraft as much as what the emptiness symbolizes.

Please enjoy the pictures. And thanks Uncle Billy for keeping this site up and running. It's 'home' to many of us who need our fill of Aloha, every hour or so.

Opi. I wish I could be there to help with the loss of Aloha Airlines. Please know that you are all in my Prayers. I continue to hope everyday! Believe me I do! I will no longer watch AQ 441, 473 and whenever 477 operated pass over the Hale here in San Francisco. It's funny how certain things in life inspire and turns us on. A part of my life has ended as well with the closing of Aloha Airlines. And to not see the colors of Aloha make it's way over the house knowing where it's going, back to my Hawaii, it is a sad stroy in itself. Mahalo for the memories Aloha. God Bless ALL.

To my Aloha Friends and the rest of the Ohana. I cannot even describe how sad and heartbroken I am about the shutdown of this company! My love for Aloha started many years ago even before being hired in 1989. I have since moved on but continued my loyalty flying with Aloha. As difficult as it was to digest all the bad news and think that I will no longer be able to fly from Oakland to Honolulu and than on to Hilo on the "Birds Of Paradise," I cannot begin to fathom the loss that everyone has endured over this shutdown! 61 years of tradition and serving the community from the West Coast and the Hawaiian Islands is a tremendous loss to many. I would like to thank ALL for your lasting friendships as a co-worker and in many years since a devoted and loyal Customer of Aloha Airlines. I will miss the smiles, the greetings and everyone I knew in Honolulu and other stations. Mahalo Aloha. My heart goes out to ALL of you and Prayers as well. I will forever miss Aloha Airlines and the wonderful service while crossing the Pacific and my short hops to Hilo. Mahalo the Aloha Airlines Ohana. The Hawaii skies will no longer be the same without the "Birds Of Paradise!" Mahalo Nui Loa and God Bless. A*L*O*H*A

6 years ago when I received my first lay-off from United, I was heart broken. Not because of losing my job, but at the fact that none of my co-workers seemed to care what was happening. Come to think of it, I can't even remember anyone's name that I worked with. I doubt that anyone knew I was missing.
Then the ad in the sunday paper appeared, Aloha Airlines was looking for Contract Service Agents. An opportunity I thought to get back into the work place, doing something that I loved, working with people and airplanes. While I was just looking for another job, Aloha wasn't looking for just another employee. Aloha was looking for another member for their Ohana, someone that could carry the Aloha Spirit with them and be a part of their community while participating in community services. I felt that feeling on my first day of work. Everyone was so welcoming, said hello and told me that if I needed help to ask them. I was amazed by how much my co-workers considered me as a new friend and not just "the new person". Soon I became an advisor for the Aloha Airlines Explorer Program, which I absolutely love! I've made so many friends and met so many people that I can't explain just how much Aloha has given me.
Now that I look back, I have but one regret...I haven't joined Aloha Airlines sooner. However I am grateful to say that I am an Aloha Airlines Employee! Working here has given me more than just a job, but a family and good friends. Laughs and scolding's that I will miss dearly. If it wasn't for Aloha, I would have met such great people, nor would I have been a part of Aloha's legacy.
I wish everyone the best of the best and hope that you will keep Aloha in your hearts forever. Now the State of Hawaii will know what a great airline they lost becuase Hawaii will never be the same without Aloha!

Your mom is awesome. I had the good fortune of working with her when I trained Cargo, and more recently in Dining Services. She's obviously raised quite the mature, smart, and caring daughter. Thanks for your thoughts! It means a lot to all of us at Aloha!

Hi everyone, I'm Mahealani Kekuewa from Maui :)
I'm only 13, but I am gonna miss Aloha Airlines very much /: I've been flying this plane since I was a baby. My mom is the Cargo Manger for Aloha on Maui. It has never crossed my mind that Aloha would ever be shut down. I know I will miss the freedom of just hopping on a plane and flying where ever we want to fly to. This may not be important to other people I know, but this means alot to me. And I've cried so much since Aloha shut down, (cry baby, ha) and I still have hope in my heart that maybe one day Aloha will come back :)

I was so proud of the Aloha employees as they showed the world how much they love and care for each other. Everyone was a class act in spite of hearts that were shattered by the abrupt shut down of our beloved Airlines. What made Aloha great were the teams working in unison, often placing aside their feeling and planting a big smile on their face.

These last 5 days have been enormously stressful but you can all be proud in your carriage of duty first. My heart will always remember the good times and the great bunch of team members. Hope to see you around blessing Hawaii in your new careers. May the Lord provide for each and everyone of you. God Bless You1

To the best Pilots I have ever flown with,
I miss you all. I have missed you since leaving in 1999 but I always took comfort in being able to go home and see my old flying family. You will fly again.

"Because I fly
I laugh more than other men
I look up an see more than they,
I know how the clouds feel,
What it's like to have the blue in my lap,
to look down on birds,
to feel freedom in a thing called the Yolk..."

To Captain Alton:
I simply cannot believe what has happened. Aloha had become a hobby/interest of mine over the past 20 years. I am a former airline employee, as was my late father, both of us with Pan Am. Aloha always promoted a fun and family environment amongst it's employees. My heart goes out to you and all those connected. I wish you only the best.

I am deeply saddened with the recent news of the future of Aloha Airlines. AQ has been my second ohana for these past 4 years and I have built great friendships and have met such wonderful people. I still can't believe that we are closing our doors to the people of Hawaii. All we can do now is look forward and hold on to the memories that we have built with this company. When one door closes, another door opens...I wish everyone in my AQ 'ohana the best of luck. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all!

It's been a tremendous honor to work with each and every one of you, especially my dearest friends in the Inflight and Flight Operations Departments. It is sooooooooo sad that Aloha Airlines is going bankrupt. I wish I could do something to help but truth is I'm only 11! It will effect one member off my family. But it is a shame that United Airlines did not buy Aloha so they could at least stay in business! Sorrry Aloha Airlines WE LOVE YOU!
