Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Performance

Some VERY unscientific tests with the Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G Lens.

I found this to be an educational exercise after purchasing this wonderful lens a few weeks back. I wanted to better understand the properties of the lens under "somewhat" controlled conditions.

I thought the information (the images) gathered from my experiments might be interesting to others. However, I must warn everyone that this information does NOT represent the TRUE performance of this lens. It only shows the resulting images obtained under very specific, and less than ideal, conditions. This is NOT a review of this product nor to be taken for anything other than what it is --> A bunch of pictures of my kitchen under bad lighting with ZERO optimization!!!!! :)

I'll let you draw your own conclusion, but please be thoughtful about it...please...

Conditions:
1) Lens mounted to a D300 - ISO200, Locked Exposure, Locked Focus, No sharpening, No NR, Daylight WB.
2) Camera mounted on sturdy tripod
3) Incondecent lights + North facing windows with overcast skies (I know...not the best)
4) Focus Distance = 3.5 feet (the front most Diet Pepsi can)
5) Distance to background pictures = 20 feet
6) Images shot in NEF raw and opened in ACR 4.4 with no adjustments made there.

I'll add results images as they are processed and labled.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Warm Wishes,
-Andy
