FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial is an 800-acre memorial in honor of the 32nd president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt memorial contains four rooms, which represent his four terms in office. Roosevelt was elected President in November 1932, to the first of four terms, which spanned twelve years from March 4, 1933 to April 12, 1945. He was the only president to be elected four times.

The memorial is located between the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials along the waterfront

I also had a father that was part of his honor guard. I even recieved a certificate from the White House stating so. His name was Dan Darnell. He was wounded in the battle of Attu Island during WW2 and recieved the Purple heart and Bronze star. Little did I know that as an adult, I would move to this great state of Alaska. My father would never come visit me up here because of the painful memories. His serving in the honor guard for FDR was one of the high points of his life. Thank-you for the many photo's.

Your gallery is lovely. We just returned from Washington and because we visited this Memorial as darkness was falling, our photos are not the best. We were very impressed by the Roosevelt Memorial but found it difficult to hear our tour guide because of a high volume of planes from Reagan Airport. I have been trying to locate a photo of FDR's funeral procession, I am looking for a front view of the horse riders/pulling the caison...my fathers Army unitn was the closest whenever FDR died, and my father was one of the horse riders pulling the caison. IF anyone out there has one of these or knows where I may find one, PLEASE email me at brenda.bliss@coxhealth.com. I will be glad to pay a reasonable fee for the photo. Thank you so much for your photos. One of my uncles believes that a man in the sculpture of the "Dole Line" looks exactly like his father who was my grandfather (which is very possible because he did have to stand in Bread Lines during that time. My uncle had gone to this Memorial and then wrote to us about it.

The dog's name was Falla (or Fella). I believe there are photos of him in FDR's funeral procession.

I have a photo [snapshot 1 1/2 x 2 1/2"]of FDR when he was Gov. of New York.He is in his wheelchair on the porch of his Hyde Park home.He is shaking hands with Huber Root who was President of A.I.Root Co.This was given to my dad as a gift from his older sister.She had received it as a gift from someone who attended the meeting. Is it of any monitary value?
