Benbulben is known as County Sligo’s 'Table Mountain' and is part of the Dartry Mountains. The mountain was formed during the Ice Age, when large parts of the Earth were under glaciers. It was originally merely a large ridge, however the moving glaciers cut into the earth, leaving a distinct limestone formation, now called Benbulben. The mountain rises to a height of 526 metres or 1726 feet. Although it does have a flat top and resembles Table Mountain in South Africa, as you move around it, this is not always obvious.
