I always thought it was Upper Lascar Row that was 'Cat Street' rather than Hollywood Rd, or was it a monicker for that general area? I love all of these photos though. You have some amazing pictures. Ever thought about going back and doing updated versions for comparison?
In my day this area of Hollywood Road was known as "Cat Street" and was full of old curio and antique shops. You're right in that this was taken from in front of the Man Mo Temple.
There are a couple more photos taken from this area on the same afternoon in the gallery including some of Ladder Street with all the kids piling out from school. It's interesting to note that one of the schoolgirls in the background appears to have hung back to have a secret liasion with an older man ! Something her parents would not have approved.

great photo, but actually this is Hollywood Road, in front of Man Mo Temple, where Ladder Street joins it. This part of HK is quite well known because they filmed "The World of Suzie Wong" here in 1960.

Thank you for these wonderful images. I didn't have a camera back in the 60s, 70s. Your pictures on Pokfulam, HKU, Western St, Causeway Bay, Central District, City Hall brought back a lot of my memories. I was there when City Hall was officially opened. All these images brought back a lot of my teenage years and childhood times. Thank you.

There are stalls and vendors in front of that building now. I know because I stopped there to change my memory card last year!
