8 Feb 2006 "Refusal"

Street portraits are not always easy...
Leica R7, Leitz 50mm f/2 Summicron-R, Ilford HP5 Plus

These two images were shot at the same day of 1994,
12 years later I have much less "refusals",
maybe because I have a more effective way of asking
or maybe because I look (and I am) much more older...

i think he not like his photo...

I'm curious how you ask people this. I always seem to shoot from a distance, but that way I will never get the compelling pictures you make, with visible interaction. If you want to tell, I'd be happy.

Antonis, you're great !!!

Camera shy inded - but makes for an excellent portrait just the same !
Guest 09-Feb-2006 18:25
Still a very effective shot!

Or maybe because now you're fearless. Still a good shot. Maybe even better.

It still works well and the fellow on the left is darned interesting by himself.

It is nice to know that you get refusal and still continue. This is the biggest issue for me...fear of asking. I love taking people pictures but hate rejection. I have a few nice pictures but with no release forms...darn!

How is it that you ask differently? Different body language? Tone of voice? Or how you word the question?

Must be the gun in your belt...

It seems to me that the other guy is mad, if I look at his face. Nice picture, Antonis!

Yes, this refusal, made it perfect...Indeed, they are not easy, but you 've become a proffesional in this kind of shooting. Hope you didn't have any trouble with the guy...:)

Somehow it's made an even better photo than if it had been candid. Excellent.
