South Pole Station

As of Jan '06, the new Elevated South Pole Station was completed, replacing the old dome station which was being slowly buried by the ever increasing snow. Only a couple hundred people live at Pole during the summers, and the research consists of subjects like astrophysics, neutrino collecting, atmospherics, and other hard sciences. Pole doesn't ever get above about 7 degrees F, and is situated at 9300' on the polar plateau in the Great White Expanse.
A few times a season, someone in my dept goes to Pole to run a recreational overnight session for interested "polies" (there isn't much to do at Pole; a lot smaller and different than McMurdo).
