During the '05-'06 season, Erebus began throwing bombs out of the crater again. The last big bomb year was '84. The volcanologists have a camera at the rim showing the image in the hut so they can see when an eruption occurs, which this past austral summer was about once or twice a day. One must be careful not to get hit when the bombs fly, so visits to the rim are timed after eruptions. The biggest this year was 3m, but most are smaller. Drs Bill McIntosh and Nelia Dunbar are out of NM Tech, and are great folks. They've been studying various aspects of this volcano for 20+ years along with Dr. Phil Kyle.
