Día de los Muertos in Patzcuaro and Morelia 2010

My travels to Mexico never fail to disappoint me. Mexico is full of so much color and rich culture. Even though the USA has issued travel advisory warnings to Michoacan I found there was nothing unsafe about being there as I was traveling alone. This was my third visit to Morelia and Patzcuaro for the festivities of Día de los Muertos. The city of Morelia named after José Maria Morelos y Pavón was celebrating its bicentennial of their War of Independence from Spain. Once again I visited Los Hornos Ortiz Bakery which goes all out for Día de los Muertos. Morelia has great architecture along with wonderful public art, murals, sculptures, churches and art museums. Patzcuaro held its annual tianguis along with the Concurso where folk artists from throughout Michoacan competed. Once again all the work was exceptional! Patzcuaro has become a destination for visitors from around the world to witness the beauty of Dia de los Muertos in Michoacan!
