Fridamania at the Museum of Latin American Art

On March 16, 2014 the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California, celebrated Women’s Day Festival 2014: Fridamania, alongwith the public opening of the exhibit “Frida Kahlo, Her Photos”. This exhibit features over 200 photos from Frida’s personal collection that were archived at La Casa Azul, her home in Coyoacán, Mexico. The exhibition is divided into six different categories: “Her Parents: Guillermo and Matilde”, “La Casa Azul”, “The Broken Body”, “Amores”, “Photography” and “Diego’s Gaze”. The exhibit will be up until June 8, 2014. Here is a link from the Huffington Post that talks more about the exhibit: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/james-scarborough/frida-kahlo-her-photos-th_b_4971973.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false and another link from the Orange County Weekly talking about the exhibit: http://blogs.ocweekly.com/heardmentality/2014/03/frida_kahlo_molaa_exhibit.php

Also a part of the festivities on Sunday were hands-on activities in the Balboa Center, two lectures by Hidla Trujillo, the director of the Museo Frida Kahlo, live music in the sculpture garden, a slide show made up of ninety images from women artists (of which one of mine was included from over 300 entries from around the world), vendors selling Frida trinkets and a Frida Look Alike contest. Both men and women competed in the contest. The ages of the contestants ranged from around 8 years old to 88 years old. It was so much fun to see eveyone channeling Frida!

The event was joyous, packed with over 6,000 people in attendance and everyone seemed to have a great time! What was even more amazing was the fact that so many people came out to witness Frida Kahlo's living legacy!
