John, I was shooting thru a white translucent umbrella and had it placed about 3 or 4 feet from the subject, slightly higher than the subject. I had a second light that was equipped with barn doors and shot thru a translucent white panel. It was probably about 2 or 3 feet higher than the subject and about 5 feet away on the footprint. I turned the battery pack down to about 30% output for softer light. HTH Angie
