This is a very powerful and poignant photo. Very moving and powerful of a woman of strong character.

It's good that I was not there, Jenny, because there wouldn't be any cake left, and no photo then! :-)
A wonderful last pix that reminds us that with each year, the chairs are emptier, the cake too big.

And of course her favorite grand daughter...

****The softly focused half eaten cake and random positioning of the empty chairs add context, to this -- the most poignant image in the story. You place the subject almost out of the picture, drawing the eye to those who are not there. On Grandma's happiest day, she must still face the realities of a long and hard, and often lonely life. She is loved and honored by all who know her, but this image tells us that ultimately all of us must stand alone. She has been alone longer than most.

sorry, there was a typo below, it should be "hard" instead of "hear"

I like this picture, loneliness is most feared by people, and be-widowed at a very young age then for the rest of her life, I can't imagine how hear that life would be, but this woman has lived through it, and here again, she was alone when all her friends had left. A person must by VERY strong to be able to survive all these loneliness over and over again.

Don't doubt about her strong character (still studying?)....she looks strong and healthy at the age of 90. Looks like she is 'the last woman sitting' in here. How lucky to enjoy with grandmother that long.
