This is going to sound wierd, but then again some people think I am ;-) It is as if the shadow is confronting you i.e. facing you, and you are closing your eyes to avoid seeing it. A denial of it's existence. As if we can pretend that what is in front of us is actually behind us. But as Cory says, this is big, bigger than you can deny, and at some point you will have to take those hands away and face it....K

Sadness? Fear? or perhaps both of them?
This is a great psicologic SP Jen, the 1 spot light situated, perhaps on your legs? or floor? gives a great contrast and dramatism, on one hand there is the most evident one of the shadow that we coud simbolize as 'the monster', a monster that is part of you but isn't realy you eather. somehow, it, all together, makes me think a bit like a father punishing seveerly his daughter... or even it wold be a grat picture for an add of misstreated women.
Any way, an other element of the picture that I find is quite important in this drama are the fingers that seem larger and thinner thanks to the shadow and as such much more fragile and week even to avoid the danger.

The shadow really adds a sense of scale to this image, in an emotional sense. Your expression is one of worry or trouble to me. The shadow gives the sense that the problem you are worrying about feels uncontrolable and is growing beyond your reach.
