For their performances during the second week of the Arena Football League’s 2008 season, New Orleans VooDoo quarterback Danny Wimprine and defensive back Keon Raymond have been named Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, by the writers and staff of ArenaFan.com. Philadelphia Soul wide receiver/defensive back Mike Brown was named the Two-Way Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Wimprine (6.03, 236 lbs., Memphis) made the most of his first AFL start by leading the VooDoo to a 54-53 victory over Southern Division rival Orlando while completing 27-of-37 of his passes for 311 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions. The hometown New Orleans native also ran the ball twice for four yards in his second career AFL game.

Others considered for Week Two’s Offensive Player of the Week: Los Angeles QB Sonny Cumbie, Tampa Bay QB Brett Dietz, Utah QB Joe Germaine and Philadelphia wide receiver Chris Jackson.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Raymond (5.10, 190 lbs., Middle Tennessee State) broke up a two-point conversion with no time remaining that secured the VooDoo’s 54-53 victory over Orlando. He returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown with 36 second left in the game and added seven tackles, including one on special teams.

Others considered for Week Two’s Defensive Player of the Week: New York DB Levy Brown, Philadelphia WR/DB Mike Brown, Tampa Bay defensive lineman Tom Briggs and Dallas DB Bobby Perry.

TWO-WAY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brown (5.10, 190 lbs., Charleston Southern) returned a kickoff 54 yards for a touchdown, intercepted two passes and recorded 4.0 tackles in the Soul’s 60-49 win in Chicago. He also had a rush for no yards and finished with four kickoffs for 108 yards. Brown’s interceptions came on back-to-back plays taking a one-point game (36-35 in favor of the Soul) into a 15-point advantage en route to an eleven-point victory over the Rush. He snagged his first pick Willie Mays-style with a diving over-the-shoulder that prevented Rush receiver Damian Harrell from a go-ahead touchdown. Brown was also up for consideration for the ArenaFan.com’s Week Two Defensive Player of the Week.

Others considered for Week Two’s Two-Way Player of the Week: Grand Rapids DB/KR Ahmad Hawkins, Orlando DB Marlon Moye-Moore, Tampa Bay WR/KR Sedrick Robinson and Orlando WR/KR T.T. Toliver.
