It seems a bit too appropriate to be processing up an image of the Lagoon Nebula, Messier 8, on an atrociously wet weekend in Sydney. Nonetheless, it's a lovely sight - a large star-forming nebula about 4,100 light-years away in Sagittarius. Pretty open cluster NGC6530 decorates the front of the Lagoon. Scattered around the Lagoon are a number of twisted dark shapes - Bok Globules, dust clouds that likely hide newborn stars. The biggest of these were catalogues by EE Barnard as B88 (top left), B89 (centre left) and B296 (bottom centre).
