This is a view towards the heart of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies. Giant elliptical galaxies M84 (right) and slightly elongated M86 (centre-right) dominate the view. Markarian's Chain of galaxies continues to the upper left with NGC4435 and NGC4438 (the Eyes). NGC4438 shows lots of tidal distortion, with tails of blue stars flung out in its interaction with NGC4435.
The Virgo Cluster is the centre of the Virgo Supercluster, of which our galaxy is a part.
