NGC6559 complex

Pilliga Nature Reserve

A very pretty star-forming region about 5000 light years away in Sagittarius, with a mix of red emission nebulae, bluish reflection nebulae and dark dust clouds. The S-shaped dust cloud is Barnard 303 and lies to the lower left of NGC6559. Below those two are the bright nebulae IC1274 & IC 1275, bordering the dark cloud Barnard 91.

The red spot near the top of the frame, above B303 and NGC6559 is not an image artefact. It's a peculiar object which is probably planetary nebula M 1-41, but may be some kind of irregular emission nebula, appearing in another catalogue as GN 18.06.6.01.

Cropped from a stack of 38 x 2-minute exposures at 250mm, ISO640 and f/7.1. Processed in PixInsight and Photoshop. full exif
