The Lagoon Nebula

Pilliga Nature Reserve

A big bright star factory, about 5000 light years away in Sagittarius. It's about 140 light years wide. The dark spots across its face are Bok globules, the brightest of which are catalogued as Barnard 88, 89 and 296 (the dark wedge on the upper edge of the nebula).
