Argerich and Ravel in San Francisco, March 7, 2009

These are a few snapshots from about 10-12 rows back during the bows after Saturday's Ravel Piano Concerto in G and just before the encore of the final movement from Ravel's Mother Goose piano duet.   NO flash was allowed, so these are with 'available' light.

A friend (thank you, E.S.) has provided us (somewhat distorted) audio of (1) the beautifully played, ethereal middle movement of the Ravel (Saturday) and (2) the encore with MTT, which you can stream by clicking on one of the choices below -- they can be played while viewing the photos or webbing away.
(1):  the 'Agagio assai' movement of the Ravel Piano Concerto in G
either via Fast Internet (Higher Fi)   or   Slow Modems (LOW Fi).
(2):  the encore (last movement of Ravel's Mother Goose, for piano duet)
either via Fast Internet (Higher Fi)   or   Slow Modems (LOW Fi).

The San Francisco Symphony did broadcast the Ravel Piano Concerto on KDFC 3/17/09.
I may add that 2nd movement for contrast.

No flash was allowed for even curtain calls, a friend found out, when they almost confiscated his camera on Friday because he had used flash for the bows (which used to be ok).
So I used available light and iso800 for these, with much graininess, of course.  I was too far away to get good close-ups, so I extracted the center of the large images for those.

I've uploaded a short videoclip of the gracious Martha Argerich backstage on Friday night.
