Joao, your coming trip sounds wonderful. You're right that the taller the tower the more
status it had, but I never thought about the possible situation for those without windows.
Good point! Very glad the photos were helpful -- and thanks for your kindness.

Please add a final question mark in my comment. Thank you.

I was told towers in Tuscany were a wealth and power demonstration (the same way are those "out of sense" big cars nowadays). Higher they were, more powerful and richer its owner was supposed to be.
May I dare to say that those awful (and awesome) towers without windows could be built by someone who could not afford to build them so high and for this reason had them built as simple as possible (and for this reason awful and awesome......).

PS.: I'm planing my trip to Europe mainly to the region of Tuscany and Provence (I'm calling this trip "A Travel to the Middle Age") and I thank you very much for your photos from Montepulciano and others cities (East to Siena tour) and San Giminiagno and oters cities (east to Siena tour), besides Lucce at north. The photos has helped me to antecipate what I'm going to see in my trip and I may assure you they are the best I've found in the WEB.

Thank you very much, again

The close-up in the previous shot is actually of the building before that one, at
http://www.pbase.com/andrys/image/65888262 - which is seen in the one
before that in a trio shot. I was fascinated by those cell-like windows.
