Ryan, the chapel itself was started in 1473 and finished in 1481. Michelangelo was
'asked' by Pope Julius II to paint the ceiling and lunettes in 1508, finishing those in 1512.
In 1536, Pope Paul III hired him to make a fresco of the Last Judgment on the
rear wall of the chapel behind the altar (seen above). This was finished in 1541.
