PEACE 2031, reflections from all my yesterdays and yesteryears
i believe that i will need all my yesterdays and yesteryears each day forward to make PEACE 2031. my most recent yesterday allowed me to share peaces of peace with hundreds of thousands, yea, millions, in my nation, in our world, who would cease our current wars and commit ourselves in new ways to peace. we are now more than halfway through the United Nations Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World, 2001-2010, a title with which I suffer, for I would have this time and all time be an era of peace, with nonviolence for all.
undaunted, i set forth from this day to share peacekeeping and peacebuilding. i come to these tasks with almost a lifetime of dedication to these tasks, but i come with renewed vitality because of the many significant testimonies offered yesterday, January 27, 2006. i believe that innumerable expressions of peacefulness will empower the peaceful and will assist us in sharing far more extensively than ever before our thoughts, words and deeds for PEACE ON EARTH.
i served as an international civil servant for many years in two special agencies of the United Nations where i frequently saw beautiful acts of peace and wherein i also had wonderful opportunities to contribute. recently, to counter some bellicose language in a UNESCO publication, i had occasion to write a short essay, TAPE: Toward A Peace Education. tonight, in this eleventh hour of January 28, 2007, i wish to share my confessional suggestions……..
my these few words set something of a new stage, create something of a new arena, in which, through which, and beyond which we can all communicate our greatest longings.
