By the way, Naci,
I see your pbase name is 'airportboy" at Izmir. A wonderful young guy
helped us find help when we were given a rental car with almost no gas!
I wish I had his name and have always wanted to Thank him again.
Thank you, Naci -
I'm sure you're right! It was called "menamen" on that menu.
And we had this dish all over Turkey, from SE to SW, in every case on top of rice...
So, it must be a variant! to plop it on rice. And thank you for the more common
spelling. I will add that.
The recipes I see posted online mention tomatos, onions and eggs as basic and
some list green peppers as basic too, while others list them as optional.
Mushrooms were commonly added, in our case. And I loved the combination.
Texture and thickness varied from place to place though.
Near Aphrodisia, there was a wonderful lunch place, but they didn't have
this on the menu. When we asked for it, they said "Ahhh" and then brought
us something that looked just like what we had at Mt. Nemrut. Whatever it is,
it's highly recommended! OH, we had it at Cappadocia hotel and at Selcuk's
as well as at Ali Baba's in Kalkan a few times. Well, correction: we had
something called 'menamen' or 'menemn' but which looked and tasted similar :-)
LOVE this apparently varied dish and the country.
