The column on this one probably broke off
during one of Turkey's earthquakes.

Entire cities in ancient (and new) Turkey have not survived some earthquakes
while their unique sarcophagi and rock tombs have.

Guest, you couldn't get off the boat even in Fethiye? That's where this particular
tomb was. You could walk right up to them on shallow steps going all the way
up, well, at least to the more famous one to the left of this one.
But the ones opposite Dalyan are harder to get to. A lot of rock climbing.

I didn't hear they filmed African Queen here. I agree with you re just floating
by the reeded waterways. Loved it. And, the bird flu is now in Italy, Germany,
France, and Italy. The little rural area of Dugubayazit (in eastern Turkey) is
where the flu apparently hit a couple of families. We were there for a couple
of days, a year before it hit.

wst,
The famous one to its left I was able to walk right up to, however, and inside, if I wanted, which I didn't :-) Most of all, the area was hard for us to find, for some reason. Some nice young people doing their homework got into their car to lead us to them.
