Am just starting Scott Kelby's
7-Point System book for Photoshop CS3.
It guides you in saving what are lackluster results
from originally interesting images, and these are
step-by-step changes you do yourself to the bad
original image, using a copy of his original shot.
The book is for those who've used Photoshop a bit.
I'm starting the book this Oct ('08), but the date of the
image is from when Kelby took the photo in Nov '05.
