Gallery of Andrew Leonard

Welcome to my work in progress. My name is Andrew, I'm a 21 year old, recent UC Davis graduate. I've had a camera and have been taking pictures for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't until several years ago that I uncovered the kind of passion I have for photography. The spark was ignited when I got my first digital camera, the Canon Powershot G2. While researching the G2, I realized that owning a digital camera would allow to me to experiment with photography a lot more than I could with my Sureshot Owl and 35mm film. How could this not be an excitement to someone?

As my interest grew, I decided to take a photography class at my high school. We worked with B&W film development, printing, and studio techniques. I was loaned a Minolta SRT 201, and became familiar with SLR's and their characteristics. It was a lot cheaper than retail film and processing, so my spare pocket change often covered a day's work in class.

I currently work with a Canon 20D, after owning the 300D/dRebel for a year and then selling it.

It's amazing how many things you can find to shoot in your backyard if you just sit down and take a close look. In this regard, photography is not for the eternally impatient, and may be better suited for the eternally curious.

I am inspired by photography, and there are a few people and events that have inspired me to photograph. Although I have sold my services and photographs, there are a million more individuals out there that I should (and am trying to) learn from. A best friend of mine and former photographer passed away in 2003 due to complications of cancer. He enjoyed taking pictures, and is one of the inspiring forces that drives me to learn more, and to become a better photographer and person.
