5th November: Statue in Chengdu

5th November: Statue in Chengdu

Chengdu, Sichuan, China

Chengdu city centre. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province and the 5th largest city in China in terms of population. It's famous for pandas, and it's also twinned with Salford, apparently.

Sure! (even though i think Pete knows all about it as well as the Chengdu Slogan.) attention pls:
this statue locates in Chunxi road--a famous road in Chengdu which is like Nanjing Road in Shanghai.
and this is Mr. SUN Zhongshan(1866-1925),also known as SUN Yat-sen, a Chinese politician who served as provisional president of the republic after the fall of the Manchu (1911¨C1912) and later led the opposition to Yuan Shikai.
... if you are not bored with this yet pls search on Google to get more.
by the way, may i have a suggestion? can anybody make the Salford Slogan brief enough to be twined with the Chengdu one? this could also be the homework...

ok, the class of today is done here. thanks.

Steve and Sunny are both confused by this shot. Sunny, can you educate us with some historical background about this statue?

As always, many thanks to Peter for his insightful comment. I did some research - Salford council's mission statement is "to achieve the best possible quality of life for the people of Salford" - not quite as snappy as "Chengdu, Can do".

And the city's current slogan is "Chengdu, can do", which is nice. What's Salford's?
