Some of the Tequila in Tijuana costs about half as much as in San Diego. The drawback is you have to carry the bottle back over the border.

Nice image, and Dan's exactly right.
But In Zihua/Ixtapa I bought the best Mezcal I ever tasted from an old man on Playa la Ropa, who distilled it on his farm - and sold me some 2liter bottles for $2USD a bottle.
...Locals in Mexico do not drink Jose Cuervo; I was always told they make that for the tourists & for export (taste it & see; it's terrible) and from the image above I can tell you truthfully many people in Mexico have that tall *Tequila Corralejo* in their homes; it's good stuff - smooth & spicy, along with the El Jimador Reposado.
