December 10

Back to Normal

After a week of fire and weather warnings we are now back to higher humidity and on-shore winds.
For a while from last Wednesday to Friday things looked dangerous with winds up to 60mph.
Just about any spark from machinery or carelessly tossed cigarette could have started a fire.
In 2003 the Cedar Fire came within 1 1/2 miles of our house. Over 2,200 houses were lost.
A lesson that all warnings need to be taken seriously.

Such contrast to the devastation you describe. I can't imagine. Thankfully you have been spared.

I had no idea that so many houses were lost in 2003. This is a peaceful scene that is a comfort after the possibly perilous conditions.

Lovely view. We still have quite a few active fires up here but they are finally getting under control. Must be scary if you are that close to a fire! V
