December 7

Ominous

The fires burning north of us in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties have blown huge amounts of smoke out to sea, creating this glowing sunset.
We currently also have three fires burning north of us in San Diego County and a big one in Mexico to the south.
The winds were up to 60 mph today, creating a big mess in our pool and garden.
Winds are now dying down. We should be out of danger by tomorrow evening.
We also had four earthquakes yesterday. The biggest was a 4.2 which shook our house for a moment.

We have seen the coverage of the fires here and the vision is terrifying, it must have been very unnerving to also have the earthquakes. We hope everything gets back to normal very soon.

We are seeing those fires and heard about your quake...I feel for those in the path of the destruction.

Calamity is the word. The image is beautiful but you seem to live close to hell ! V.

I saw it on tv, I hope they could stop the fire quickly.

Apocalyptic image, Walter. The fires are really bad this time, and earthquakes too. Stay safe, my friend.

Neve a dull moment in California! I hope you can stay safe throughout all of this! Yes we all are thinking of you down there.

The bands of colour are amazing, but the cause is frightening. Hope these fires can be controlled ASAP.

ironic how smoky air can enrich a sunset...California fires have been getting extensive coverage here...the images and updates are alarming...fingers crossed the flames don't come your way...tremors must be an additional nerve-wracking worry...with luck all will calm down in time...do stay alert though, and be ready to react..

A lovely photo, but all that stuff happening makes one wonder. V

Yikes. Makes for a beautiful photo. So sad. All the loss and pollution. Stay safe!

Wow. Stay safe! Very scary. We are predicted to get snow tonight...not normal. Last time we had snow was 2004. I have a garden full of flowers and roses and fruit. :(

Such scary stuff - do hope the winds are still abating - we're watching news closely !!

Ominous is a good word for it. In another life and living north of San Diego we had to prepare to run from a fire. It started 20 miles away and in a few hours it was cresting the ridge right above us. You have to see it to believe how fast it moves. Thankfully the wind shifted and turned it back. Earthquake? Don't you mean EARTHQUAKE! It’s the price of living in paradise eh! V

A terrible calamity. I'm glad that ash is all you only get.

When it rains it pours! Hope things settle down for you very soon..

Hmmm, it is an astonishing capture- but of what? Is that the sun or the raging wildfires? ~V~
