Police Photographs

These photos from the San Diego Police Department were taken in 1938.
The Booking Number starts with the letter "N" indicating that all these people were arrested for some kind of Narcotic Offense.
Each photo has the charges written on them. These include Narcotic or Marijuana Peddler or Smuggler and Addict,
but also Deserter, Burglar, Shoplifter, Forger, Prostitute, Card Shark, Prescription Forger, Thief, Pervert, Pimp, Robber, etc.

Fascinating subject & photo document. No white collar crime rogues gallery or murderers mentioned here, mostly underclass offenders for relatively minor offenses? Are the questions about racial, ethnic, employment history, family, economic & educational backgrounds then & now much different??? It's an interesting sociological study. Thank you for sharing this image. V!

what a rogue's gallery...racial breakdown seems fairer back then...more recently a disproportionate number of black Afro-Americans have seemed most likely to be incarcerated..
