The Transition as Reader

"Das Glasperlenspiel" known as the "Glass Bead Game" in English is a novel by Hermann Hesse.
Not an easy book to read or understand, I attempted to read it when young and could not finish it. I did read the paperback pictured here on the bottom in 1992.
Now twenty years later I am about to read it again as the hardbound book on top, curious about how the transition of time has changed me as a reader.
