The Little Barrel

We're in the process of removing lawn and other plants to reduce our water consumption.
In one corner of the garden there used to be a very large bush of some kind which used a lot of water and made a mess.
This has been replaced by this little barrel cactus. It measures about 2 feet / 60 cm across now.
I have been told some day it will be over 6 feet / 2 meters across.
Then it will no longer be a little barrel.

I imagine this wasn't easy to plant! I wouldn't mind getting rid of my lawn too, not to conserve water (because I never water it anyways) but to save all the time spent mowing it. When I stop to think of it lawns make no sense. But here doing something like this is actually against the law. By law we can't convert our lawns to something like this and we have to keep the grass mowed. There was a big stink here about that in the spring when some people challenged the city in court after they were fined for their naturalized lawns.

Never make the mistake of sitting on your barrel cactus! It must have been a challenge to plant!
