AJ and I spent three days and two eventful nights in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. Friends at the Park suggested Big Meadows for our campground and we based our forays into the many trails of the park from there. It was nearly disastrous, and definitely comical, and we're glad no one was on hand to see me wrestle with a dome tent, to little avail, and then watch us get drenched to the bone during the first night's biblical lightning and thunder storm. I feared for our lives as AJ and I struggled to at least stake the tent to the ground so it wouldn't fly away while we scurried back into the car to wait the storm out, all the while lightning striking seemingly within yards of our campsite. Two hours later, we finally got the tent up and were faced with feeding ourselves after all the local lodges had closed - getting a fire to cook our food, even using fine fire wood, firestarters and every scrap of paper we could find in the car, that was Keystone Cops stuff. But, after an hour of constant fanning of the flames, we had sufficiently blackened our food and quickly wolfed it down. Here then are the photos that show the fun side of our time at Shenandoah. More to come...
