A Thousand Words: Philippine Destinations

Monday, October 21, 2002 / GUECO: Photo's delight / By Malu T. Gueco / SUNSTAR PAMPANGA

"In all true works of art wilt thou discern eternity" - T. CARLYLE

Ecstasy. Bliss. Happiness. We experience this heartwarming feeling in the guts when we touch the art world. Our hearts beat in crescendo and we are transported to a world of pure delight.

This emotion overwhelmed the audience who attended the photography exhibit of ALWIN F. ANICETE. Entitled "A Thousand Words" it was opened last Friday at the Baracas Coffee Shop in Balibago, Angeles City. The event will run until November 29.

What pictures capture the eyes?

MAN/WOMAN: A series of five prints show a half-naked man with his pants subtly and partially unzipped.
This depict the essence of flesh rippling with muscle power, taut torso and body contour. Posed against a black background, they highlight a visual impact of light and shadow.

In a separate mixture of snapshots, the Mutya Ning Angeles 2002 candidates are artfully featured. Their poses are not rigid but rather follow playfulness and spontaneity. They bring out the essence of young ladies ready to meet the challenges of adulthood.

FLOWER MONTAGE: Here photographer Alwin shows off color on a montage featuring roses, orchids, suntans and "bulaklak ng kamias". The prevalent warm colors of red and fuchsia are a study in counterpoint to a cool summer green garden. " I work as a professional landscape artist, thus, flowers fill my vision," he explained.

SUNSET: This particular representation spins my soul in the sunset tones of orange, yellow, gray and magenta. Bands of color express the interaction between sky and land. A single electrical post breaks the horizon's line and somehow conveys the energetic/melancholic feeling of a day's end. He shot this scene while traveling from San Fernando superhighway towards Angeles City.

CHURCHES: "Bell towers fascinate me," he evinces. His photos of churches evoke shapes, structure and synthesis. He shows the vivid dance of opposites, namely, Nature and architectural form, crease and smooth, history versus ethereality. Our eyes focus on churches found in Negros Oriental, Dumaguete City and the world-famed Manila Cathedral.

The crowd of viewers last Friday were enthralled. "The exhibit showcases the best in Kapampangan photography and we are proud to host this photo event," said Baracas Coffee Shop owner Bong Lacson. Ms. Gloria D. Capuno gushes, "We celebrate in his camera prowess."

Yes, our dear readers let tranquility be your joyful companion. Feel expansive, sip a cup of coffee and view the exhibit with gusto. Kudos to photographer Alwin F. Anicete who makes our hearts throb in delight!
