WE WANT FALMER!

My football team...Brighton & Hove Albion at Withdean Stadium. We are now in the Coca-Cola Football League 1 & were in the Championship League for 3 seasons until last year, were in the FA Cup Final and the then Division One equivalent of today's Premiership, in 1983. Yet this has been our picturesque but temporary home for 7 years now, prior to that we ground-shared with Gillingham FC in Kent about 50 miles away, for a year or two. This was after we were robbed of our ground for over a century, the Goldstone, by an ex-chairman. Have been fighting for permission to build a proper, much needed ground at Falmer, on outskirts of Brighton, for years, - still no decision yet. Now we are told a government minister will announce decision in late July 07....DECISION IS 'YES' BUT WE HAVE TO WAIT 6 WEEKS UNTIL SEPTEMBER FOR A DEFINITE 'GREEN LIGHT', AS APPEALS AGAINST DECISION CAN BE SUBMITTED UNTIL THEN...NONE SO FAR!......NO APPEALS...IT'S THE GREEN LIGHT AT LAST!!!! Will be 2/3 years before new stadium completed.
UPDATE: 2009....finally...work started on the new stadium site in January.....the club plans to move into it by August 2011
UPDATE: August 2012.......STADIUM COMPLETE! We were newly promoted back up to the Championship League and the first home match in this league was in the new Amex Stadium...what an event to end 15 years with no proper home!
