One of the world's oldest shopping malls, it has been in the middle of the Market Square for 700 years. Around 1300 a roof was put over two rows of stalls to form the first Cloth Hall, where merchants traded in linen and other fabrics. It was extended into a long Gothic structure in the late 14th century, and ornately refurbished after a fire in 1555. Stairs and galleries were added in the 16th century, and the outside arcades in the late 19th century.
Nowadays, a gallery of 19th Century Polish Art is housed upstairs, and stalls on the ground floor mostly sell assorted souvenirs. There are three large cafes on the site.
